Changing Things

Proverbs 18:20-21 (KJV)
(20) A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
(21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

I included verse 21 because it is a very familiar verse, but I’ll be honest, the last part of the verse is still a question for me – “and they that love it”. My question is “love what?” If you have an idea on what verse 20 might refer to and you would like to share, I’d love to hear from you. Leave me an e-mail or post.

What I wanted to focus on in this message was, the power of speaking into our situations and environments in order to change them.

Speaking contrary to our situations is the most unnatural thing we can do. As humans we speak what we see or from the depth of belief that resides in our heart. So if we believe a situation is hopeless or will never change, we will say things like “there’s no use in trying” or “I give up”,  but God doesn’t speak based on what He sees. He speaks truth and what He wants.

From Genesis to Revelation we see God speak and things change. We read in Romans 4:17 that God quickeneth the dead (brings dead things to life) and calls forth those things that be not as though they were. However, in the context of the chapter we see FAITH (belief). In 2 Corinthians 3:18 Paul talks about how we are being changed into the same image of Christ – from glory to glory. In 2 Corinthians 4:13 Paul talks about how God raised Jesus from the dead and that we have the same spirit of faith – Paul says because of that spirit and his belief, he speaks. Lastly, Revelation 12:11 tells us that we overcome by the blood and the word of our testimony.

The Lesson
We being recreated in God’s image have the same power to speak and change things. Because our faith transformation is progressive we must continue to speak the right things. Often times we will undo our positive confessions with negative words and disbelief. It is our faith and belief that moves God and not empty words. So if you want to change things in this life, speak with belief the will of God, knowing that He will honour his Word and it will not return onto Him void.

Change and watch your negative confessions. No matter what the situation or circumstance looks like, don’t change your positive confession(s) until you see that which you’ve spoken.

Confessions: I speak to every dead situation and declare it alive. I declare an open heaven and open doors in my life, marriage and finances. I speak health to my body and in my children’s bodies. I declare that the glory of Jesus Christ will be seen in my life and in the earth. I speak peace and safety in my neighbourhood. I declare that godly men and women will rise up and lead their families, businesses and nations.

Task: Begin and continue to make declarations of what you want to see and watch the Lord bring them to pass.
